Nigel Cabourn
Nigel Cabourn is a British fashion designer known for his outerwear and vintage-inspired clothing. He began his eponymous label in the early 1970s, and quickly gained popularity for his menswear utilizing fabrics such as Harris Tweed and Ventile. Studying fashion design at Northumbria University from 1967 to 1971, his studio is still based in Northeast England.
Growing up in a pivotal era defined by free love and war, Cabourn translates his experiences into design. With influence ranging from seeing American soldiers pairing their green army field jackets with Levi’s 501s to British pop music of the 1960s, Cabourn says that everything he design comes from either a moment in history, an inspirational person, or a vintage garment. Fabrics are often developed for the brand’s proprietary use in order to mimic, or improve on, fabrics found in Nigel’s personal vintage archive.
With contemporaries such as Margaret Howell, Vivienne Westwood, and Paul Smith, Nigel Cabourn has cemented himself as a cult British designer. His aim with each collection is to create timeless styles with lasting quality that improve with age and wear and are still relevant in years to come - clothing that can be worn for generations.
