Founder Jean Touitou graduated from the Sorbonne in Paris with a history degree and no intention of becoming a fashion designer. By accident, Touitou landed his first job with Kenzo, followed by gigs at Agnès B and Irie before deciding to start his own label in 1987 with the launch of A.P.C.

The initials A.P.C. stand for “Atelier de Production et de Création” (Production and Creation Workshop), as the brand considers these two fashion fundamentals to be equally important. Without quality production, creation is merely an idea. And without creation, a piece of clothing will never come to life.
