Barena Venezia, a small, family-owned company has significantly influenced the way men and women dress in and outside of Italy over the past twenty-seven years. Initiated by entrepreneur Sandro Zara and creative director Massimo Pigozzo, the Venice based label draws inspiration from it’s iconic native landscapes and the concept of ‘elegance even when we are working the land.’
GP: When was the brand founded?
FZ: Barena Venezia was founded in 1993 when my father, fascinated by Venetian tradition and fabrics decided to create this brand with the men's collection. When I fell in love with Barena, I felt I had to do the women’s line, that was in 2008.
Why did you start designing clothing?
I grew up in a family of talented creative people, mamma e papà, all in love with fabrics, impossible not to feel the same way.

How do you define quality?
I believe quality unify more senses together. When you like to see, touch and feel a fabric it is a matter of quality.
What is your favourite part of the design process?
The very beginning, when you are fully into fabrics and you feel totally free.
What is special about the production of your brand?
The special thing is that every single piece is done here, right where we are, with our people working to make it the best way.

Who is your favourite author or musician?
Author Lev Tolstoj, musician Ennio Morricone they make me dream.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
I love staying with my husband in our Tuscany house, surrounded by nature, olive trees, and vineyard.
