Studio Nicholson Fall '24 Editorial

Nick Wakeman, the creative force behind Studio Nicholson, believes that true style goes beyond appearance—it's about how clothing makes you feel. While anyone can put together a decent outfit, Wakeman insists that the real impact of a garment lies in the emotions it evokes. This philosophy drives Wakeman's passion for fabric, which informs every aspect of her design process. For this collection, Wakeman and her team prioritized fabrics with distinct properties, like being spongy, shiny, or textural, and drew inspiration from the 1990s, particularly from Japanese fabrications, thinking about designers like Comme Des Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto.

Wearing the Beck Dress. It is made in a viscose-linen blend with a bouncy hand feel and slub texture with a natural crinkle. Style lines at the front give the dress a gentle structure, while the back is loose and billowy.

Noe Polo

A sleek, lightweight Italian lambswool is the perfect material for this refined knitted polo shirt. A soft collar and three-button placket keep things classic, while the gently relaxed fit nods to more contemporary influences.

Wearing the Loche Shirt. Keeping the meticulous details of traditional shirtmaking without any of the stiffness, Loche is classic and modern all at once. Its oversized shape is cut from an archive stripe cotton with a pleasingly vintage feel. Across both men’s and women’s shirting, Wakeman has added textured vintage stripes in roomy shapes and muted tones.

Wearing the Lant Shirt in Sky Blue. Foregoing intricate detailing in favour of clean construction, Lant has a deliberately minimalist sensibility. The small, neat collar and rubberized buttons add a modern, sporty touch.

The Autumn 24 colour palette includes airforce blue, asphalt, black grape, bone grey, butter, dark fir, darkest navy, espresso, fossil, glacier, gull grey, peanut, plaster, tan, and tarmac.

Another key fabric is a Japanese linen-like twill, which brings an easy fluidity to garments like the voluminous Dordoni pant, and the a-line Barr dress with a mid-calf shoulder cut-out.

Wearing the Barr Dress in Ice. A full-length dress with an oversized fit for relaxed, effortless wear, the Barr Dress is made in a fully lined twill weave that resembles linen but has a more fluid drape. Skimming the body with gentle shaping at the waist and bust.

For Fall 24, fabrics with a marble-like textural smoothness are also key, with the unisex Raine jacket (pictured) in darkest-navy, crafted from showerproof bonded cotton and featuring an oversized cut with a dropped shoulder and drawstring hood.

The Petar Denim Jacket, made from a substantial denim twill, diverts from the typically slim cut of a denim trucker jacket, and has a relaxed, boxy fit that feels distinctly modern. Also wearing the Tuck pant, View shirt, and Parr cardigan.

Consistently a seasonal highlight, the Holin Coat (pictured) is a loving tribute to classic trench coats. Holin’s raglan shoulder and full, voluminous cut make it sophisticated but easy to wear. The fabric is a crisp, performance-style cotton blend, with water repellent qualities.

Also wearing the Fiore Crewneck, and Lant Shirt.
