We are excited to welcome Kanuk to gravitypope!

Since 1970 Kanuk has designed and handcrafted the highest quality winter coats in their workshop in the heart of Montreal.  Taking inspiration from the rigorous Canadian climate, they craft garments prepared to stand up to the toughest winters year after year. Kanuk continues to refine and develop their craft today, never cutting any corners in their pursuit of quality and timeless design.

Kanuk is renowned for quality and durability and that’s because no detail goes overlooked. Their designers and artisans oversee every aspect of the manufacturing of their garments and are involved in each crucial step of product development. They are tireless in the pursuit of superior materials, from thread to insulation, and their rigorous quality control is applied to every single garment. The coat you wrap yourself in during the coldest season was conceived and manufactured with care and no corners are ever cut.

It’s no accident their garments are so enduring. They are handcrafted locally to protect against extreme weather conditions and are, by their very nature, robust. Not only do Kanuk winter coats come with a lifetime warranty they are often passed down from one generation to the next. Unsurprisingly, they have a renown following amongst local vintage seekers. They also provide free repairs and touch ups on more than 500 coats locally each year. Their Second Life program encourages our clients to return their used Kanuk coat to us so they can donate it to those in need, and they can collect a discount on their next coat.

Today more than ever, Kanuk firmly believes that outerwear must be designed in the climate it will be worn. While their style has evolved over the years, their commitment to protecting you from the elements never wavers. Kanuk will continue to create clothing that meets the very real challenges of our times and constantly innovate to do what they do best: to help you protect yourself.

Kanuk's commitments:

CARBON NEUTRAL BY 2025

Kanuk's head office and all their factories are powered by 100% renewable hydro-electricity, and they aim to be 100% carbon neutral by 2025.

RECYCLED FABRICS

50% of Kanuk's current collection is made with recycled fabrics. And they are steadily increasing that percentage annually with the singular goal of only selling garments that contain recycled and organic materials in the very near future.

LIMITING WASTE

Kanuk have made use of their vast archive of materials collected over the past 50 years in our current collections. Concurrently, they keep their loss of fabric during manufacturing at less than 5%.

FUR-FREE

Kanuk's collections are entirely fur-free. The use of fur for protection against the winter elements has a long history, but with the innovations at their disposal today, the past need not dictate the future.
